Happy 2016

Konnichiwa and Happy 2016

Needless to say this post is way overdue, but I was determined to share. This year I traveled to Japan to ring in the New Year with a wonderful group of girls. The people, city, and culture were so welcoming and we managed to find our way around the city's sophisticated, but confusing subway network. Thankfully for any english speaking individual, the city has everything translated in both Japanese and English.

We spent the majority of our visit in some of Tokyo's most popular neighborhoods which included Shinjuku, Harajuku (sadly we couldn't manage to find our girl Gwen Stefani), and Shibuya.

Shinjuku: This neighborhood was pretty much home base for us as our Air BnB was located near this neighborhood. We enjoyed visiting the outdoor markets as well as temples. Because the Japanese view New Years as more of a family and religious holiday, the temple's were extremely crowded on the first of the year as many made the journey to start the New Year on the right foot. Outside the famous Sensoji Temple was a busy street market with all types of food which we clearly enjoyed by the amount of ice cream we always seemed to have in our photos.

Harajuku: No wonder Gwen recieved such inspiration from this city! Harajuku is one of the trendiest cities with some of the world's biggest brands located on one street. From Gucci to Prada to Alice & Olivia this city had it all. On top of that we visited some local stores that specialized in our favorite cat, Hello Kitty as well as other Japanese creatures.

Shibuya: Home to the world's busiest cross walk, we must have crossed this street 10 times. It was fascinating to sit back and watch the ebb and flow of thousands of people crossing one intersection. To leave our own mark on this famous crossing, Jordan and I paid tribute to TCU with our small but mighty flag that we believe helped bring home the W #gofrogs.

In addition to the neighborhoods we also spend a great amount of time at Ueno Park where we toured the Peonies Gardens as well as a visit to the tallest building in Japan, SkyTree Tower.

Thanks for helping us reign in 2016, Japan!
