Hells Yeah, She's a ZTA!

This past weekend was TCU Bid Day.  I could not be more proud of my parter in crime as she joined the royal family of Zeta Tau Alpha. While rush can always be an overwhelming process, this girl stayed true to herself and crushed it. Having both gone through the process we thought we'd offer some pieces of wisdom to any of you sweet girls thinking about going through rush.

1. BE YOURSELF! I know we tend to hear this saying almost every day but it couldn't be more true when it comes to sorority rush. There is no sense in acting like someone you are not for a week just to get a bid from "a top house".

2. Who decided what houses are considered "top houses" anyway? If you ask me a top house should be defined as one that YOU feel most comfortable in. Not what your mom, best friends, boyfriend, or greek rank thinks. YOU form your own opinions, do not simply believe what others profess is true.

3. Be open minded. This is where I've seen friends become heart broken. They go into the week thinking they are going to be a Kappa Phi Chi Lambda and set their hearts on one sorority. They fail to pay attention in the other houses because duhhh they are going to be a Kappa Phi Chi Lambda. I encourage everyone to go through the process with an open mind towards each sorority because while your cousin may have been a Kappa Phi Chi Lambda you are your own person and have different values and beliefs that may fit best with another house.

4. Look around. What I'm referring to here is looking at the girls both inside the house as well as those outside. As the week progresses the parties will become smaller and less girls will be waiting outside the houses. While you are waiting to go inside, strike up a conversation with some of the girls around you and see if you could picture yourself as pledge sisters. While the girls in the house are fun to talk with, at the end of the day they are older and eventually will graduate. It's just as important to focus on your potential sisters and pledge class outside the house as it is to build solid connections inside the house.

5. Everything happens for a reason. While the week may seem long and the process never ending everything will work out how it's supposed to. Any girl must keep this in mind as they rush a sorority.

And at the end of the day if all else fails, I always take my home girl Mindy Kaling's advice...."Sometimes you just have to put on some lipgloss and pretend to be psyched"
