Banff National Park

Canada, Eh?

More specifically Calgary. This weekend a group of friends and I jetted off to Banff National Park located about an hour and a half outside of Calgary. With only 36 hours to spend on our weekend get away we had our eyes set on both Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.

Saturday morning we got off to an early start that put is into Moraine Lake around 9am. After talking to a few locals we learned parking is ideal before 10:30 and it could not be more true. By 1pm the lot was filled with numerous tour busses. After taking in the breathtaking aqua blue color of Moraine Lake we started our 4 hour hike up to Larch Valley/ Sentinel Pass. This was one of the toughest but most rewarding hikes I've ever done. The view of the lake coupled with the trees, glaciers, and mountains made for a scenic route. We enjoyed homemade PB&J's at the top and took way too many photos along the way. Long story short, it is worth the pain I'm feeling today.

After our hike, the rain and wind started to pick up so unfortunately we were not able to canoe or kyak. Should any of you make it out to Banff I'd highly recommend Rocky Mountain Activities or the Banff Canoe Club for biking, hiking, or the ultimate water adventure. Both have great rates and offer killer packages. We refused to let the storm rain on our parade and braved the weather to make it to Lake Louise. After a quick 15 min drive we arrived to see yet another picture perfect lake. We walked around the lake and took in everything the the park had to offer. Should any of you think of staying in Banff you have to check out the Fairmont for more of a luxury stay or the Paradise Bungalow's  for the ultimate cabin experience.

Needless to say, Banff rocked!
